Molded Fiber Plate & Cup Tray

Accum’s molded fiber cup trays are made of 100% compostable and recyclable material, which is natural and sanitary.

They can be degraded back to organic compost material in 3-6 months, and then can be used as fertilizer. It does not require additional cultivation lands and has no impact on forest areas. The material comes from nature and customers can even re-use the trays for few times before the trays go back to nature. The trays are stackable, lightweight weight and firm enough to hold cups filled with beverages.

INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE

The Role of Bagasse Sugarcane Fiber in Sustainable Food Service

Bagasse, the dry fibrous residue left after crushing sugarcane stalks to extract their juice, is a phenomenal raw material for molded fiber products. Instead of being discarded or incinerated, we utilize this agricultural byproduct to create durable, compostable alternatives to traditional plastic or foam tableware. This commitment to using a readily available, annually renewable resource is central to our mission. The process of converting bagasse into plates and containers involves high-pressure molding, which gives the final product its characteristic strength and resistance. This inherent sturdiness is what allows our bagasse sugarcane plates—including the increasingly popular rectangular and square sugarcane bagasse plates—to maintain structural integrity even when holding moist or oily foods.

Accelerated Composting of Sugarcane Bagasse Plates

A key advantage of sugarcane compostable plates lies in their end-of-life cycle. Unlike bioplastics, which often require specific industrial composting conditions, bagasse naturally decomposes relatively quickly. When disposed of correctly in an industrial composting facility, our molded fiber products can break down into organic compost material in a remarkably short window—typically three to six months. This rapid decomposition allows the material to re-enter the natural cycle, creating fertilizer without demanding additional cultivation lands or negatively impacting forest areas. We are incredibly proud that the material, which comes directly from nature, is designed to go back to nature efficiently, closing the loop on a truly sustainable supply chain.

Understanding PFAS-Free Certification in Food Packaging

The shift towards PFAS-free food packaging is an industry-wide necessity, particularly in response to stringent regulations across Europe. PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals traditionally used in food packaging to achieve high levels of water and grease resistance. While effective, their persistence in the environment and potential health concerns have led to a critical movement away from them. We have actively addressed this by developing a specialized range of PFAS-free bagasse sugarcane plates and containers. This involves utilizing natural, proprietary barrier coatings—derived from sources like natural wood or bamboo pulp—that achieve excellent water and grease-proof performance without relying on fluorinated chemicals. This innovation ensures that even our heat-resistant containers, which hold hot food up to $100^{\circ}\text{C}$, remain sturdy, strong, and completely safe.

Practical Benefits of Molded Fiber Food Containers in Commercial Kitchens

The utility of our molded fiber food containers extends far beyond their environmental merits, offering significant practical advantages for commercial and catering operations. The structural rigidity derived from the combination of pure natural wood pulp, bamboo pulp, and bagasse sugarcane material provides a critical level of durability. This strength is crucial for holding full meals and resisting accidental crushing, particularly during delivery or stacking. Furthermore, the functional versatility is unmatched:

  • Thermal Versatility: Our containers are designed to be microwave safe for convenient reheating and freezer safe for long-term food storage, offering complete flexibility in food preparation and service.
  • Stacking Efficiency: Items like our cup trays and food containers are engineered to be stackable, significantly reducing storage space requirements and streamlining operations in busy kitchens. This is a subtle but meaningful economic benefit.
  • Grease and Moisture Protection: Despite being entirely natural and compostable, the material and its coatings are highly waterproof and grease-proof, preventing leaks and maintaining a clean presentation for the customer. We’ve seen this greatly improve brand image for our clients.

Comparison of Standard vs. Customized Sugarcane Bagasse Solutions

While our stock Bagasse Sugarcane Plates (such as standard square and rectangular formats) serve a broad range of needs, a significant part of our focus is on specialized custom solutions. These custom projects leverage the inherent moldability of bagasse fiber to create unique forms that perfectly fit a client's specific product or packaging requirement. This high degree of customization is a substantial advantage of molded fiber technology over traditional rigid packaging methods.

Feature Standard Bagasse Plate Custom Bagasse Solution
Shape/Format Common round, square, or rectangular sugarcane bagasse plates. Bespoke cavities, multi-compartment designs, or unique fitments (e.g., custom trays for specific products).
Tooling Cost Minimal to none (existing tooling is used). Initial investment for new mold creation.
Design Focus General utility and broad market appeal. Precision fitting, aesthetic alignment with brand, and functional optimization.
Lead Time Generally shorter due to readily available inventory. Longer, incorporating design, mold-making, and sampling phases.

We’re proud to announce that a few customized solutions have been worked out based on bagasse sugarcane material, demonstrating its versatility for specialized packaging needs.
